Introduction
Tracker is seeking a highly skilled and disciplined Close Protection Officer (CPO) to provide discreet, professional, and proactive close protection services to designated high-risk individuals. The successful candidate will be responsible for safeguarding the life, wellbeing, and freedom of movement of principals through continuous risk assessment, operational planning, and vigilant execution. When not deployed in a close protection capacity, the CPO will support broader operational objectives aligned with Law Enforcement Liaison Officer (LELO) responsibilities, ensuring effective coordination with law enforcement agencies, operational teams, and external security stakeholders.
Job description

Key Responsibilities

Close Protection Operations

  • Provide armed close protection to assigned principals during all movements, engagements, and activities.
  • Maintain continuous situational awareness to identify potential threats or hostile surveillance.
  • Escort and secure principals during travel, public appearances, and events using approved protective formations.
  • Apply defensive and evasive driving techniques where required.
  • Execute duties with the highest levels of discretion, professionalism, and composure.

Risk Assessment & Operational Planning

  • Conduct advance reconnaissance of routes, venues, accommodation, and event locations.
  • Perform static and dynamic threat and risk assessments.
  • Develop and execute close protection operational and contingency plans.
  • Adjust protection strategies in real time based on intelligence or environmental changes.

Incident Response & Crisis Management

  • Respond immediately and effectively to threats, attacks, or emergencies involving the principal.
  • Execute evacuation, extraction, and emergency procedures under high-pressure conditions.
  • Coordinate responses with law enforcement, emergency services, and Tracker control centres.
  • Provide first aid or life-saving interventions when required.
  • Compile comprehensive incident and after-action reports.

Operational Coordination & Communication

  • Maintain constant communication with control rooms, drivers, and operational teams.
  • Ensure firearms, vehicles, communication systems, and protective equipment are operationally ready.
  • Support operational briefings and debriefings.

Compliance, Legal & Regulatory Adherence

  • Ensure full compliance with company policies, SOPs, PSIRA regulations, and applicable legislation.
  • Adhere strictly to the Firearms Control Act and armed security regulations.
  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality, ethics, and professional conduct.

Administration & Reporting

  • Complete daily operational reports, movement logs, and risk assessments accurately and on time.
  • Maintain secure handling of sensitive information and documentation.
  • Support internal audit, legal, and regulatory requirements.

Law Enforcement Liaison Officer (LELO)

  • Respond to vehicle crime activations (theft and hijacking).
  • Assist with vehicle recoveries and on-scene coordination.
  • Liaise with SAPS, Metro Police, private security providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Support intelligence gathering, investigations, and crime prevention initiatives.

Minimum requirements

Qualifications, experience and competencies required:
  • Matric / NQF Level 4 (Essential)
  • Close Protection Certification – NQF Level 5 (Essential)
  • PSIRA Registration: Grade C with Armed Reaction
  • Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in Close Protection, VIP Protection, Law Enforcement, or Security Operations.
  • Proven experience in executive/high-risk close protection assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability in threat assessments, route planning, and advance reconnaissance.
  • Operational exposure to incident response, crisis management, and emergency evacuations.
  • Experience in vehicle recovery or tactical response environments (advantageous).
  • Physical fitness suitable for rapid response environments
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as required by operational demands
